Man And Van Hire – The Cheap Option When Moving House

Man and van hire is often the best way to do a small move, but there are so many things to consider when you are looking for the right service, as well as so many services out there, that you may need a bit of help to make sure that Man and Van hire is the cheap option when moving house. If you rush the process, or do not do enough research in to what is out there, then you may find that you spend more than you need to, and that the process is actually much more than the cheapest option!

Start by working out exactly what you need for your move. This means determining whether all of your items will fit in to the van sizes available for you. It is not a case of there not being a van out there that will take your items, more an issue of making sure that you get that van! Look in to the sizes of van that are available, and get the correct measurements for them. Compare this volume to a corner of a room in your house, and attempt to fit your items in to this space. This should give you a great idea as to the size of van that you need. Be sure to order a van that has a little give room in terms of space, as you may find that the shape of the van does not allow you to pack it in the same way as you had expected, and that you cannot fit everything in as you hoped. In this case you will have to do two trips, which can be a nightmare, especially if you are trying to keep costs down.

Make sure that you are equipped with enough man power as well. If you are capable of lifting heavy objects, then you and the driver should be able to manage everything, but if you are not as well-endowed as you’d need to be, then look in to how you can source some more man power. Start by looking in to whether your man and van service can provide another helper. Some companies will do so, and it will only cost around a tenner extra per hour, which may be well worth it. If you are on a tight budget however, then you might be better off finding a bulky friend who can help out for cheaper or even for free! Either way, make sure that you are only paying for the work that the extra helper is doing; hiring a man to do a bit of lifting at each end, but who gets paid to sit in the van on the way to the new place is a real waste of money!

Make sure to be hospitable and keep the human element with whoever you hire. An offer of a cup of tea can get everything off to the right start and make the whole process much more enjoyable. Do not however, let them sweet talk you in to wasting time with conversations, especially if they are on a rate per hour, as this can be a clever way to drive the price up. Also, have a good idea as to the route that you want to take when you are driving, as this can also be a classic time waster. Do your move at a time when traffic is low, as you may find yourself stuck in a jam, watching the price go up and up!
